SG-1 Fic: Date with a Pirate Princess; "The Quest, Part 1" Comments
Oy, I've been pecking at this since last Sunday -- sorry it took me so long. I know a number of you have been waiting for it -- many thanks for your encouragement. :)

Title: Date with a Pirate Princess
Rating: PG
Genres: Angst, Romance (Daniel/Vala, some Sam/Jack), Hurt/Comfort, Humor, Friendship (SG-1 with each other, Daniel/Jack and Sam/Vala in particular).
Summary: Daniel and Vala finally "complete" their "date" -- at Disney World, and with the rest of SG-1 in tow ...
Spoilers: up to "Momento Mori"
Length: 3 chapters, about 13,700 words -- about 30 pages
Notes: Sequel to "Ribs". Why Disney World? Because it's a place I know very well, and I thought they all deserved a break. ;)

Sooo .... another sequel? Would anyone care to read what happened on the rest of the trip, at the other parks? Or should I just progress directly to the next plot bunny my brain has been tossing about? :)

~ Would have liked a bit more friendly Daniel/Vala interaction (particulalry when he walked through the wall of fire), but overall, it was a decent ep. Not an all-time fave, but good.

~ Liked Vala having more interactions with the rest of SG-1! If she's ever to have a real relationship with Daniel, she needs to be an equal among his comrades, rather than a hanger-on. She needs a bit more independence.

~ Loved Vala's sleepy run through the halls of SGC, as well as her leaning on Sam. :D

~ Liked how everyone was sort of making their own plans and ignoring what eachother was saying at the tavern, that was funny.

~ The old man turning out to be Adria was a good twist -- I assumed he was just a Prior....

~ Heh, Sam totally read my mind when she told Ba'al and Adria to get a room....

~ Having Daniel tell Vala that the word for the direction of "right" in ancient didn't have the same alternate connotations as "right". Considering "Dexter" and "Deosil" are also words for right that mean both the direction AND (historically-speaking) something positive, and the words "Sinister" and "Widdershins" both mean the direction of "left" and (again, historically-speaking) something negative, it seems to me, since according to the show our lore and language have basis in that of the ancients, then the ancient word for the direction of right should also mean "just/correct/positive". I don't like taht the wriers did that at all. Instead, Daniel should have been surprised and pleased at her deduction, only for them to hear the child's creis coming from the other way as they were about to go down that hall, and THEN have him decide following the child was probably the actual correct choice.

~ I wnder why Vala hung back like that, when she told Teal'c to go on ahead of her. Was she just being polite? Or did she maybe not want anyone to notice how freaked she was?

~ The fire/faith thing was *painfully* obvious. It wasn't at all believable that it would have taken Daniel -- much less *any* of them -- that long to have figured it out. It's not even an original story point, I've read that schtick before.

~ Man, oh man, how are they gonnna get outta this one??

Awwww!!! Your story was so cute! I've been to Disney World about a dozen times myself so everything was familiar, and I think everyone's reactions re: the rides/attractions was spot-on! Also loved how you described all the Vala/Daniel interaction and very much enjoyed the Sam/Jack! ;o)

You know, it's funny b/c I'm currently working on a Daniel/Vala fic that involves Vala wearing a pair of Mickey Mouse pajamas. And for awhile I toyed with changing it to something like, oh, butterflies...but after reading your fic, I think I'll keep it ;o)

Also...about 8 years ago I wrote a fic for the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds competition and my story involved some of the Voyager crew ending up in a holographic Disney World ;o) LOL.

Yes, I think you should totally keep the Mickey PJs :) I can picture it, and she looks adorable ^^

And cool on the Voyager fic -- I know if I were stuck and space and had a holodeck, that's what *I* would use it for! *G*

Great story! Keep up the good work. Loved that Daniel was so thoughtful in getting her tokens of things she liked. And of thinking ahead of certain things he thought she might like. And thanks for the link to look at the Pirates pin. Funny enough I haven't been a huge fun of pirates of the caribbean. But I liked the pirate/princess in Vala. It does fit her. Would love to see the second date where she tells him more about herself.

GUH! you kill me, you really do. when I first read this earlier I couldn't think of anything coherent to say, but now I can easily say that your Daniel is ridiculously cute.

there were so many amazing moments in this fic, I can't get over it! Daniel putting him arms around Vala telling her she's cute, all the times they almost kissed, the team smirking and whispering about Daniel and Vala, THE DESERT SCENE (:O!), and omg Sam and Vala! I love that you played a little bit with Sam and Vala's friendship because I love them so much! hehe

and wow, your Vala was spot on, and amazing to read.

fantastic, fantastic, awesome, amazing, great, I loved it!

as far as a sequel, of course I'd read anything with head of heals in love Daniel, but if you've got some better D/V brewing I'll take that too.

Thanks muchly! I can't believe how eager my muse has been in working with them. I have at least two fics still to write (well, one of those is actually 3 more fic sequels the Disney World fic, since people have convinced me to write it -- hopefully I'll get to the next part, on the Disney-MGM Studios, soon). I mean, I was shipping the 9th Doctor/Rose really had for a copule months there, but though I have a fic about them stored in my head, I haven't had the impetus to write it. With Daniel/Vala, though, I can't seem to *stop* writing! LOL

Ok, I think we need a standard disclaimer:

btw, outside of LJ, I tend to write as Lionchilde, so if you do use it on your site, you might want to say Lionchile instead of so_out_of_ideas

Psst...Disneyland was totally MY idea though. I only pushed Dar into writing it cuz I wanted birthday fic and Vala in mouse ears. And then she asked me to plot it out since I REALLY know Disney and well let's just say it's grown from there. *snerk* So at this point, its yours and my muses that are crossing wires. *snerk*

And hey you know what they say, GMTA :) Nothing wrong with them apples. Or erm mouse oreos. *snerk*

BTW, I managed to get a copy of the SG magazine after all -- thanks for letting me know there *was* one. :D I think Shank's interview in it cleared up a *lot* of misunderstanding on his opinion of d/v and that whole statement he'd made about having to tone down the romance. In fact, since it's the *humour* that he was afraid might get overdone, and not the affection, I think they should concentrate more on the tender moments, ey? For all the talk of needing to cut down on the snarking, like he said, they sure seemed to turn it UP in CoS (and a bit in TQ p1, too) *scowls at the show's writers*

Well my b-day is next Saturday the 14th :) And I so love that idea about the witches' brew. Since I rock at ficsticking. I'd love to see a caricature of that! :)

Oh the mouse oreos well if you've read Taking the Long Way, you know it's based after Twist and Lick where the oreos thing started and I am plotting a scene where they share a Mickey Mouse oreo ice cream sandwich in the next fic, so um yeah, mouse oreos. *snerk*

And I'm glad you got the mag! :) And see, doesn't it make so much more sense? But yes I do agree, that the snark quotient was WAY TOO high in CoS and a little bit in TQ1 as well. I was way pissed at Daniel after CoS. And hee, Abbie wrote that article. I'm gonna get both her and Michael to sign the mag at the con. Cuz I'm a dork like that. *snerk*

This is just so inmensely cute and greatly done! I'm kinda lacking the right words right now. What a truly delightful story!

Ok are you in mine and Dar's brains? Cuz you do know we're co-writing the third part of her Taking the Long Way series in which Daniel and Vala and sundry go to DISNEYLAND? Must say I did get some ideas reading your fic even if I do know D-Land much better than D-World (only been once in 1989 and I didn't do much at the MK cuz we had one back home. I did love Epcot though). Very cute story. I'd love a sequel. And I love the stuff about the Pirate Princess and their first real date. Hee! But that pin is scary looking! What WERE they thinking. Oh and Vala is sooooo Stitch! And I want Daniel's Tigger hat. We didn't have hats like that. We have Tigger top hats and tigger ears and tigger santa hats but no Tigger hat like that. And hee sometimes Daniel reminds me of Tigger. *snerk*

Very cute story. Now get writing with the sequel! *smooch*

Oh and as for my thoughts on The Quest, I enjoyed it but was a bit disappointed cuz to me it wasn't mid-season finale material. It needed something MORE.

LOL, I *swear* I had no idea what you guys were planning -- like I told Dar, my net connections been crap for a while now, so I've hardly seen a thing of what's been going on in the D/V community for the last week & a half or so Great minds indeed :D

Aww, you don't like the pin? I think it's puuurty! :D I got it for my birthday! As for the Tigger hat -- I went by memory for that, so I dunno, maybe my memory added details that weren't there? I coulda swore the green Tigger top-hat had ears & a tail ... Geez, and I was just there a few weeks ago, how can I forget so easily? ... (my folks both work there, so I usually go to at least one of the parks at least once a month, even if it's usually Epcot, cause that's what they like. I love MGM and Kingdom a bit more, though I don't mind going to Epcot when Off Kilter is playing *is a total OK groupie*)

I just peeked at the DW site to see if they had pics of the merch, and you know what I found? They're hosting "Pirate and Princess" parties starting in Jan through March!! LOL

Yeah, I felt like TQ P1 was missing something as well. It was a little too much action, and too little heart. They tried to cram in too much at once, like they figured getting to the Sangrael (Sangraal?) should be hard, but it was kind of thrown together a bit :/ The things I enjoyed were mostly what the actors managed to bring to it ...

Ok, late response but well cleaning out my inbox...

I saw all the Pirate Princess merch you were talking about at D-Land Monday and I took photos. I hope you don't mind, but I'm making Vala's mouse ears be the Pirate Princess ones (cuz yes they DO have em) and I think she's gonna beg Daniel for one of the shirts or the watch or the pink cowgirl hat. *snerk* They DID NOT have the pin though. Must say they had everything else! *snerk* BTW, when was your b-day?

LOL that's ok. I don't mind sharing a brain with you m'dear cuz you're way talented. Reminds me I need to read part 3 :) And hee I dunno if you saw my LJ yet, but I met Michael! *swoons*

I don't remember that Tigger Top Hat. When I worked there we had an orange one with stripes that just never fit ANYONE cept kids. And now they don't even sell it anymore. LOL.

Only been to Florida once in 89 so it's been a looooooong time. I have to go off D-Land for my references.

Oh I agree. And guess what? MS thought that the dragon was way cheesy. And he was like, ok wtf is Sam doing with that time dilation thingy? He ranted about it for a while. It was too funny. I loved the character interactions. But the rest of it was kinda weak :( I am eagerly awaiting part 2 though. Cuz of that spoiler pic. Oh my.

Also what do your folks do at the park? :)

I got the Pirate Princess watch for and early x-mas gift -- which was lucky, cause almost everywhere on the grounds was out that day, and I'm imagining by the next day they were out for sure! As for the hat, yeah, I'm starting to imagine Vala with the pink Mouse ears too -- but they're only in the youth size here. Doesn't fit on my head *pout* And Daniel did get her one of the pink shirts :)

No, Im not going to those parties, LOL -- wish I could have gone to the Hallowe'en one, though, I had fun the time I went years back ...

I'm still mad about how they handled the "right path" scene, an now that I think on it, vala should have been the one to walk through fire, too. A) shes probabaly afriad of fire afrter having "died" by fire in the Ori galaxy, and b) it would have shown how much faith she has -- in Daniel.

Mom worked in laundry and bussing -- now she's in Mech at Animal Kingdom. Dad's done Custodial, Attractions, and Merch -- all at once, at the American Pavilion in Epcot. He was also a trainer there. Then they made him a Scheduler at MGM. Now they've created a new position for him -- they call him a Juniro Financial Analyst, but what he really does is database management -- he's created a new program that they use for the entire resort, and are talking about installing in the other resorts as well. He doesn't want to go abroud, though, LOL!
